History
The Rehabilitation Center: Therapeutic Solutions for Children and Adults has been serving the area for almost 60 years. The Center was organized to treat and support people with disabilities or disorders and their families in June 1950. It began its work in a school house on Woods Street in Sherman. It wasn't until 1957 that the Center was able to purchase a house on South Crockett. In 1960 the Center was able to build a treatment facility at its present location on Hillcrest next to Wilson N. Jones Hospital.
The land for the building was
given to the Center by the Hospital and at no time was there any
indebtedness on the building. The construction was paid for through
donations from individuals and organizations. The Center was able to add
a speech and hearing clinic in 1966. Services
were enhanced with the addition of the Aquatic Center on Texoma Parkway
in 1990 with renovations undertaken in 2006.
The Hillcrest location underwent
major renovation and expansion in 1998.
The Center continues to meet the needs of this community. Current
services include occupational therapy, physical and aquatic therapy,
speech and language therapy, a sensory integration clinic, and an array
of support and adjunct services.
Now, as throughout the years, no one is refused treatment for lack of
funds. Some patients are able to pay all or part of the fee. Some have
insurance, Medicaid or Medicare which covers portions of their
treatments. Others are unable to pay anything. The generous support of
United Way and others in the community ensures quality service for all.
